These days there are many popular catchphrases like “deeper learning” and “21st century skills” which are just a fancy way of saying general intelligence like critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity, and social skills like teamwork and leadership.  

These phrases are popular because there is a general agreement that schools right now are not places where our kids can receive deeper learning or train in 21st century skills.

Some people still think that existing schools and curriculum can be upgraded or improved to include a little bit of 21st century skills and deeper learning after a standardized IGCSE math class.

But when something is old and obsolete, it becomes junk. You replace it with new technology that is better. 

You shouldn’t keep trying to fix old junk because of a stubborn refusal to adapt to new technology.
